About Us

Countryside Veterinary Services was established May 1st, 1998 by Drs. James and Rebecca Lillard.  The original practice worked out of a garage and a small barn.  The staff included not only the Lillards, but also Dr. Cindy Backus, and three other staff members.  For five years the practice grew as an ambulatory large animal practice, serving clients throughout East Tennessee.  In May 2003 the practice moved into its current facility, which included a full service small animal hospital, a haul-in equine facility, and a 2-stall hospitalization building.

Since 2003, Countryside Veterinary Services has become a state-of-the-art mixed animal practice.  The staff now includes eight veterinarians and 24 support staff.  The large animal facilities have been expanded to include 2 haul-in areas, a 42-stall barn, a 12-stall intensive care unit, and a newly completed equine surgical facility.  The small animal facilities now include 4 exam rooms, hospitalization, 2 surgical suites, a complete in-house laboratory, and a 42-run boarding kennel.

Since they began practice in 1980, the Lillards have strived for excellence in the field of veterinary medicine.  It has been their goal to provide the highest quality care possible to people and their pets.  Their philosophy has always been to treat clients as friends and patients as if they were their own.

We would like to take this time to thank all of our past and present clients for their support over the last 10 years.  It is because of their loyal patronage that we have been able to expand our range and quality of services to what they are today.
